bristlecone

Project Overview

Inspired by the ancient, resilient bristlecone pinecone, this conceptual installation merges an organic natural seed with complex, symmetrical poly-geometry. The piece explores the intersection of the natural world and digital fabrication, designed to transform a quiet botanical artifact into a monumental, illuminated architectural landmark.

Digital Architecture & Engineering

At In Theory Art Studios, every custom concept is meticulously human-engineered. For this installation, the intricate geometric symmetry was developed in Blender before being brought into Unreal Engine to simulate real-world lighting and scale. This rigorous digital pipeline allows us to study exactly how the facets will reflect sunlight and programmed digital lighting, guaranteeing structural precision long before physical fabrication begins.

Materiality & Integration

The design is engineered for heavy-duty outdoor durability, utilizing a steel tube frame finished with highly UV-resistant, automotive-grade powder coating. The exterior panels feature architectural-grade monolithic DichroGlass™—a safety-laminated material forged in a metal deposition chamber rather than a standard window film. Integrated LED lighting transforms the piece from a striking daytime monolith into a vibrant, glowing beacon at night.
